WARWICK BEHRNS

Passionate about his craft, well known equine dentist Warwick Behrns ignited his interest in dentistry at the tender age of 15. Born in Rakaia, south of Christchurch, Warwick moved to the North Island as a youngster, growing up helping his father on the family stud farm learning everything he could about standardbreds and harness racing, a passion that spanned across his wider family.

Moving to Australia at 18 with the aim to further his career in harness racing, Warwick quickly mastered the art of driving and earnt the title of ‘leading junior driver’.  Warwick travelled the world racing harness horses and working with equine dentists across America, United Kingdom and Europe, gaining valuable knowledge and experience.

In the early 90’s Warwick returned to New Zealand to start his own equine dentistry business from his home base in Pukekohe, Auckland building up a strong clientele from Taupo to Northland and becoming a very sought after practitioner.

In 1998, Warwick successfully taught his very first students the dentistry skills he had mastered over the last 15 years. With a new passion for teaching others Warwick travelled to and from America to teach equine dentistry, officially setting up the NZ Equine Dentistry School with his wife Dianna in 2002.  The school grew rapidly with their move into the international space which attracted students in from all over the world.  They worked tirelessly to build the schools reputation gaining NZQA accrediation in 2008 – a massive achievement.

While building the dentistry school, Warwick continued to study with the International Association of Equine Dentists and in 2003 achieved the Advanced Certified Equine Dentistry Certificiate with the highest marks ever awarded, making him the highest qualified equine dentist in the world at the time.  Warwick is still today recognised as the most qualified and well respected equine dentist in New Zealand.

Warwick works from his family farm located in Northland south-west of Whangarei (Waiotira) with wife Dianna and two children Oliver and Isabella.  Warwick enjoys carriage driving with his son Oliver and helping daughter Isabella learn her dance moves around the lounge!
